1st Blog Post On O Pioneers! By Willa Cather

I have just started reading O Pioneers! by Willa Cather. I am to page 39. So far in the book Alexandra and her little brother Emil are moving back to Omaha, Nebraska, to take over their fathers farm with her two other brothers. When they get their her father tells Alexandra and her brothers that she will be in charge. The book then skips ahead five years and now Alexandra and her brothers are going to get a hammock.

The book so far has intrigued me it caught my attention right away because of the little boy sitting on the curb side crying. I did not know why though. The theme of the book is that guys are not always the stronger ones. A quote to go with this is "His sister was a tall, strong girl, and she walked rapidly and resolutely, as if she knew exactly where she was going and what she was going to do next." This is a sentence describing Alexandra and it shows that she has leadership qualities and masculine characteristics.

Questions: Where is Alexandra and her brothers mom? It says she's there but I do not know if the author is talking about the past or the present.
