2nd Blog Post on "O Pioneers!" by Willa Cather.
I have read to part II, page 74. In the book so far Alexandra has came up with a plan to take out two more loans to buy more land, so that they will in five years have enough money to pay back all the debt and also buy more land. I think this book is very good because it shows a time of depression for farmers that I have also heard stories about with my grandfather's farms. I think the author wrote this book to show how she lived. I still think the theme is that guys are not always stronger than girls. With this quote it shows that men are sometimes girly cause they do not have masculine traits. " Oscar could not grow a mustache; his pale face was bare as an egg and hes white eyebrows gave it an empty look."
1st Blog Post On O Pioneers! By Willa Cather
I have just started reading O Pioneers! by Willa Cather. I am to page 39. So far in the book Alexandra and her little brother Emil are moving back to Omaha, Nebraska, to take over their fathers farm with her two other brothers. When they get their her father tells Alexandra and her brothers that she will be in charge. The book then skips ahead five years and now Alexandra and her brothers are going to get a hammock.
The book so far has intrigued me it caught my attention right away because of the little boy sitting on the curb side crying. I did not know why though. The theme of the book is that guys are not always the stronger ones. A quote to go with this is "His sister was a tall, strong girl, and she walked rapidly and resolutely, as if she knew exactly where she was going and what she was going to do next." This is a sentence describing Alexandra and it shows that she has leadership qualities and masculine characteristics.
Questions: Where is Alexandra and her brothers mom? It says she's there but I do not know if the author is talking about the past or the present.

The Miracle Worker: #2 Taylor Nearad
I am still reading The Miracle Worker. William Gibson wrote this book. I am on page 65 and in act two.
This book is about Helen Keller, but I think the main character now is Annie Sullivan. Annie came in the book around the tenth page. She came to help Helen and try to teach her manners. So far when she first came she gave Helen a doll and spelled doll in he hand using sign language in her hand so she can feel what it looks like. Helen repeats right back to Annie, but when Annie takes the doll away from Helen. she starts screaming and Annie wants Helen to repeat the word again..That doesn't happen. Helen throws a fit. She starts screaming and she takes the key from the room and locks Annie in. Oh and I forgot to mention that Annie is kind of blind. She has had surgery on her eyes before, but she still can't see very well. So Annie has no idea where Helen is going. But Annie hears a locking sound on the door and now she knows that Helen has locked her in. Helen just walks away from the room like nothing has happened. I don't understand though, Annie starts yelling for Helen to come back, but Helen is not able to hear this, so what is the point of yelling. Well, maybe so Kate (Helen's Mom) can hear Annie and see what's going on. I'm not sure. So eventually Annie gets out, climbing out of the window, but she gets out. Then it just keeps going on how Annie tries to teach Helen a word, then she gets upset, then leaves. Helen is learning though, well I think so.
I like this book. It teaches me what has happened in the past and how to fix that problem if it ever comes up. I'm still not liking how it's set up and how it's like a play, but if you wanted to act it out you could. Very easily. The other wrote this to of course, make money, but also teach what's its like to be the teacher of child that is not likely to learn. Also maybe so people can act this out in the future if they already have not.
I think the theme in this book is think the impossible. Helen's mom doesn't think Helen will even learn how to do anything. Annie has another side. She thinks it can be done, with a lot of hard work.
I think the best character is Annie, not just because she is the main character, but because I feel like she teaches you a lesson just like my theme is. Think the impossible. She hasn't really grown yet, but changed her habits on how to help Helen. You can tell she really wants Helen to learn. I don't think she is doing it for the money, but to help Helen in the everyday needs.
I don't think there are really any quotations is this book, if there were they didn't really interest me. No questions so far about this book. Everything is crystal clear.

Trevor Yahr Blog Post 1
I am reading the book called The Old Man and the Sea by Earnest Hemingway. So far i am at chapter 7 in the book. So far you find out that he is a pretty old fisherman with very little luck. In fact he was gone fishing 84 days and everyday he comes back empty handed. At first he had company in the boat by a young boy named Manolin but his parents made him leave because they were not catching any fish. I think so far the book is kind of slow But It really makes you wonder what is going to happen next. The author probaly wrote this book to show the theme of the book. The theme if the book to me is that no matter what never quit and in the end it will pay off. The best character to me so far is Manolin because after having success on the other boat he offers to come back and assist the old man. The man was thin and gaunt with deep wrinkles in the back of his neck. I think is a very good quote by the author more than anyone else because it is very descriptive and full of detail. I want to know when they are going to get a fish because I think that at any time they are going to get a huge fish.
In Country Blog post #1 Logan L
I am currently reading In Country by Bobbie Ann Mason. Currently im on page 37. So far that has happened is that Sam Hughes and his family are taking a road trip to Washington D.C. I like this book because it has some humor in it. This author wrote this book because it was her first novel and it was a step up from her short stories she was writing. The theme is mystery because Sam becomes interested in the Vietnam war and he wants to discover so much more about it. The best character I think is Emmet because he is laid back and doesn't really care what you think about him. "Astronauts have been to the moon". This is important because this quote might come in handy later on in the book.
Call Of The Wild Brittany Blog Post #1
I am reading Call of the Wild by Jack London. I am in chapter 4 of 7. What has happened in my book is very like hidden with the text and doesn't tell me straight forward. Now they have went in the ice and the dogs were frozen and the sled drivers were making the dogs run around the campfire to keep warm and un thaw. I think this book is overly dramatic in some parts and very interesting in others. I think it is a good book and it should be a even better book when i finish it. I think that the author wrote this book because maybe he had gone through something like this? I think his motivation was letting the whole world know that going on a dogsled race or just doing it for fun is very difficult and life risking. The theme is the wild and about nature and how the world isn't just some perfect happy place. I think the big idea was how nothing in life is easy and you have to work through its bumps and smooth them out. The best character in my opinion is Buck. He hasn't really changed although he is just very coping with whatever happens, and cares about his dogs a lot! The only questions i have about my book is why he wanted to do this? How he could have managed to go through all of this?
Inside Out by Terry Trueman
I am blogging about the book, Inside Out by Terry Trueman. I have read up to the fourth chapter in this book. From what I've read so far the main character is a young high school boy named Zach is suffering from a mental disease called Schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a mental disease that messes with your brain and tells you bad things or to cause harm to yourself. In Zach's head there are two mean voices named Dirtbag and Rat. Dirtbag and Rat tell Zach to kill himself or to do bad things and Zach has to take medication to keep these voices away. Everyday after school Zach goes to a local coffee shop across the street and waits there for his mother to come pick him up because she can't get off of work early enough to pick up Zach from school. One day two young boys around Zach's age come busting through the doors armed demanding for money. Someone from outside the coffee shop saw the incidents occur and called the police as the robbers panicked they held the shoppers and workers in the coffee shop hostage including Zach. Normally at the time Zach's mother comes to pick him up with his medication to take but as Zach is trapped in the coffee shop he is unable to get his medication to stay in reality and keep the voices away. I think the book is very good so far and attention grabbing. The book has an interesting plot and the way the author describes the situation, it's almost like your there in the coffee shop. I'm not sure why the author wrote it but maybe the author was in a situation like this before and he wrote about it. The theme of this book is to give the readers another look on how hard it is to deal with a mental illness and what challenges Zach goes through. I think the best character is Zach because he is facing many struggles in his life but when the level of anxiety rises Zach seems to stay calm. Here is a quote from the book, "I came home and found Zach sitting on the porch with a riffle to his head, he just looked at me and said, "I wanna die mom." At that moment i just bursted down into tears." I chose this passage from the book because it really shows the struggles that Zach and his mother have to face with his mental illness. Although Zach is mentally disabled, he is also very smart. Some questions i have about the book so far from what I've read are, Is Zach and all the other hostages going to be able to make it out alive from the coffee shop? Will the robbers go to jail for the crime they've committed?

jacks 1st blog post
Hello fellow Solon Spartans, I have decide to read the book Julius Caesar. This book is a classic that was wrote by one of the best ever William Shakespeare.
The book starts off with these two guys named Flavius and Murellus are walking on a street in Rome. As they walk along the street they are yelling at the peasants and telling them to get back to work. As they are walking along Murellus beginnings to talk to a cobbler about his profession. As the cobbler replies to him Murellus grows angry and Flavius ask the question why aren't you in your shop. He quickly responds that he is taking a holiday so that he can see Caesar walk threw the city.Murellus argues this in saying " Caesar’s victory does not merit a triumph since it involves no conquering of a foreign foe to the greater glory of Rome." He then continues on reminding him of when the warriors returned from the great battle wins.
In the beginning of section two we read about Caesar standing in the town square with Antony, Calpurnia, Portia, Decius, Cicero, Brutus, Cassius, Casca, and a Soothsayer. As he walks threw the center the Soothsayer warns the crowd of the Ides of March. Caesar approaches the man and quickly dismisses the saying. As Caesar talks to all of the characters the end of the seance nears and Cassius plots to turn Brutus against Caesar.
As the third and final seance of act of comes we see Casca and Cicero meet on a Roman street. Its starts by Casca saying hes seen many bad things but nothing like the frightfulness of the nights weather. Casca then says he sees a mans hands on fire but yet they do not burn. Many more events are said before Casca said that its impossible for this stuff to happen in the natural world. Cassius enters and Casca ask why he is out side in this bad weather. Cassius replies by saying that he thinks the gods are warning them about big thing coming. Casca then says well the senate plans to make Caesar king tomorrow. Casca doesn't like this idea and he also plans to help Cassius with Caesar down fall.
Over all so far Ive thought its been a pretty good story. It can be hard to read a bit because of its age but my favorite character would have to be Caesar because its a great honnor to be king. And the only question I have is how does Caesar die?

The Last Song- Reed McCarty Post #1
I am reading a book called The Last Song. This book is written by Nicholas Sparks, he writes a lot of good books and this one I just really seem to love.
So far I've gotten to chapter 9. When I first started reading I fell in love with the girl named Ronnie, which in real life Miley Cyrus players her in the movie. It starts out with Ronnie traveling in the car with her mom and brother, Jonah. They are on their way to her dads, cause her parents are divorced. Ronnie isn't your typical teenage girl, she lives in New York and is the partier type. She likes black, black pants, nails everything. She goes out with her friends a lot and never gets along with her mom. But one good side to her is that she's amazing at the piano, and her dad used to be her teacher. She doesn't get along with her dad either.
Her mom is sending her and Jonah to spend the summer with her dad, Ronnie is dreading going. She complains to her mom about it, but she just shakes it off. Jonah on the other hand is super pumped to be spending time with his dad!
When Ronnie arrives at her dads house she isn't really pleased to be there so she takes a stroll on the beach and ends up at the carnival, and where everyone hangs out. She noticed some guys playing in a volleyball match, and one guy named Will looked at her, kind of the love at first site thing. She doesn't really pay attention to him and goes and grabs a smoothie. She ends up coming back to watch and Will goes for the ball and accidentlly bumps into her and spills the smoothie all over her! Not the best first impression. She doesn't really care for him and tells him to get lost. He ends up finding her very appealing, and likes the way she works and comes off.
I really love this book, it has been one of my favorites so far.
Nicholas Sparks is very famous for his romantic-love books and movies. I think he's a great author, and writes them for the joy and excitement. A lot of people I know love his books, and I think he does it also for the enjoyment of other people.
I think one thing Nicholas Sparks wanted us to take away from the book is that you can't have everything you want. Realize that life is a gift before its gone, do everything you can to fufill life to the fullest. The main theme is forgiveness. It really shows in the book if you read it.
I personally love Will the most, he's very very attractive and loves Ronnie with all his heart. They're ment to be.
I don't really have any questions about my book, I really love reading it though!

Owen Sherman Blog One
Hola Solonites! This is Owen Sherman posting his first blog about the book Any Given Sunday by Robert Huizenga. I have only read the first two chapters of this book but so far it seems like quite a thriller.
The book starts off with the Miami Sharks, an imaginary team in the books version of the NFL, the AFFA. The Sharks legendary quarterback Cap Rooney is injured. This is a huge blow for the Sharks, as he is a legend. The Sharks coach Tony D'amato, calls in Cherubinni, the backup QB, who is injured on the next play and fumbles the ball. The offensive coordinator frantically tries to find the third string quarterback, Willie Beamen, who is sitting on the bench eating Skittles and reading a newspaper. When Beamen comes in on the next possesion, he immediately vomits in the huddle. On his second play of the game, he calls an audible and changes the play to one that does not actually exist. Obviously shaken by the pressure, Beamen is taken to the side by D'amato and told to relax, as he couldn't be replaced since the QBs were injured. Besides lining up for a snap behind a player who was not the center, Beamen is able to put on an average performance and has a few good runs. The Sharks lose, and it is revealed that this is their fourth loss in a row. The team is barely in the playoffs and is in danger of losing it. The team thinks that they wont make it since their star QB is now injured.
This book is great. I am not a huge football fan, but I love this book so far. It shows you the emotions of the players and the stress in the locker room and on the sidelines. If this book was any more fun, it would be named the Jamie Foxx Show. It captures the true intensity of competition even with the frustration of the team owner at some of the plays. This should probably win a Newberry award.
I think that the author wrote this to show the competitiveness beyond just the field but with he team coaches and Owners as well. The author is really showing how the whole system is run rather than just what people see on the field. There is a whole process that goes into making what people see on, you guessed it, Any Given Sunday.
I believe that the theme is anything can happen. The title, Any Given Sunday, kind of gives it away, but heres why this is the theme. Nobody would think that a first and second string quarterback would go down in the same game, which gave the third string QB a chance to play. I haven't gotten deep enough into the book yet to know anything more than that, as the beginning is just a football game, but that is something to support the theme right there.
My favorite character is Tony D'amato. He hasn't had time to grow or change yet, but he is my favorite because he seems to know the game very well and he is quick to calm down the young Willie Beamen when he is having trouble. He seems very intellegent as well as a very good people person.
My favorite quote is Tony D'amato when he says to Willie Beamen " Pretend like your back in the hood, and your mama's ringing the dinner bell and you go over to the Buick for one last throw over to your friend. Go to that Buick Willie, turn around, and throw the ball". This is Tony's way to calm down the nervous QB and it works very well. My questions are will Cap Rooney and Cherubini be ok, and will the Sharks make the playoffs?

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde~Kurt Blankenheim~Blog 1

Hola! Kurt Blankenheim here again but not to blog about Sir Gawain and the Green Knight this time its a classic. I'm reading The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I have just started to read this novel today. The author of this book is Louis Stevenson. So far what has been introduced in the story is the setting is in London, England. This book was written in 1885 and is starting off very mysterious! I never know what is going to happen next. It is all a big mystery. I'm pretty sure some murder case will come up in the future because of the title.......it has the word case in it. I don't know for sure but there are plenty of things that are foreshadowing what might come. Since I'm only four chapters into the book, I still don't know too much.
The protagonist is Henry Jekyll. He is a doctor, and everyone enjoys him. He likes to do many experiments. There's also Mr. Utterson who is a strong lawyer. Then there's Mr. Edward who is a very weird man who is always mean and violent. Based on knowing that about this character I have a feeling that he might be a "murderer." There's Mr. Enfield who is the cousin of Mr. Utterson. Then lastly there is Dr. Lanyon who is also another doctor. She used to be one of Jekyll's best friends but has become an antagonist because of jealousy. So with Mr. Hyde's violence, he has been acting up upon the citizens of the town. So Mr. Utterson wanted to report this and get help from Dr. Lanyon. However, She has practically no idea even who this man is. But Dr. Jekyll knows lots about him. That's why Mr. Utterson tried to ask Dr. Lanyon about Hyde, because her and Jekyll used to be best friends. He assumed they still got along good, however, he didn't realize they had become rivals. So Mr. Utterson just decides from that point to go talk with Mr. Hyde himself. So he finds him walking on the street, so he introduces himself to Hyde, who has a very messed up face! Hyde warns him about Death coming to get Dr. Jekyll. This made no since, why and how would he know that Dr. Jekyll will soon be murdered? Is Hyde going to kill him?
So at this point when Mr. Utterson is totally dumbfounded, he immediately races to Dr. Jekyll's lab to have a talk. However, all of his doors are locked. He doesn't know if he is getting death threats from Hyde or if he's gone and out of his house. So he begs Mr. Poole, (his butler of the house) to let him in. Mr Poole has the keys to every door in the lab and the house. However, Poole doesn't let him in.
Then a couple of weeks later Dr. Jekyll decides to throw a huge dinner party. With Mr. Utterson, who still hasn't talked to Jekyll yet about the possible murder, he NEEDS to go to this party. However, the party goes very late, but Mr. Utterson still had to stay because he wanted to talk with Jekyll in private. So, when he does finally get to talk with him, he takes it as a joke and starts laughing. But when Mr. Utterson told Dr. Jekyll about what Hyde has been saying, he immediately turns pale, and can't believe what he just heard! At first he was totally freaked out by it, but he remained calm and told Mr. Utterson thanks for telling me but I will let it fly by me. He says I will not worry about it and continue to do my job without worrying. This shows that Jekyll is a very brave and strong man.

So later in the year......yes a murder does take place! The only witness was this maid working at a house and saw just a little of what was going on. She couldn't tell for sure because is was about two o'clock in the morning. That's why she was the only witness she had to do her job as a maid at night while the people of that house were sleeping. She thinks she just might know who the man is. She describes him as being "evil, aged, small, and aggressive." She soon realizes that it is most likely Mr. Hyde. She knows him by seeing him from around town before and says that it was him! However, she has no clue who the victim was. So the police come, and they identify the body as Sir Danvers Carew, who is a member of the England Parliament. they also find a letter that says "To Mr. Utterson." But when Mr. Utterson arrives at the scene he is filled with shock. He doesn't understand why he would murder a man of the parliament when Hyde told him it was going to be Dr. Jekyll. He still is surprised! The police then talk with the maid about it probably being Mr. Hyde as the murderer. So the police then decide to visit Mr. Hyde's house. Mr. Hyde acts like he has no idea what has been going on. The only sign of him possibly being a murderer that the police found was a murder-weapon in his checkbook. So with so little evidence the police know where his bank account is, so they assume that if he is the murderer he will have to go to the bank soon, because that's where he left his weapon, in his checkbook. However, in the next weeks, even months, he never did go to the bank. So it still remains as a mystery.
So yes I do like this book so far. It is a really cool mystery and very mysterious. It will be interesting to see what happens next! It is a very interesting story! I think that Mr. Hyde will probably end up being the murderer. I think the author wrote this book to teach readers more about crime scenes and how to solve them. I think that he wanted to inspire the readers of the book to become like involved with crime scenes when they get older. I think the best character I like is Dr. Jekyll because of the relationship between him and Dr. Lanyon. It is still a huge mystery because of their recent arguments. I'm still wondering about him and what is going to be his role in the book. He hasn't done much yet, but everyone is talking about him so he must become important at some point. I hope he will help solve the crime or do something heroic! At the beginning he didn't say much or talk with anyone besides Dr. Lanyon, but he now has already changed by not being friends with Dr. Lanyon and starting to talk with Mr. Utterson more. There might be a good relationship. That's probably also why the author wrote this book to teach kids to have more friends. That's the biggest theme so far is trying to make friends and keep them.
When reading the book, I felt like I still needed to know more about Mr. Hyde. So I went back to reread to see what he was like. I thought it was important to reread so I could fully understand who the possible murderer is. I mostly forgot what he looked like, so I found this awesome quote that describes all about him: “He is not easy to describe. There is something wrong with his appearance; something displeasing, something downright detestable. I never saw a man I so disliked, and yet I scarce know why. He must be deformed somewhere; he gives a strong feeling of deformity, although I couldn’t specify the point. He’s an extraordinary-looking man, and yet I really can name nothing out of the way. No, sir; I can make no hand of it; I can’t describe him. And it’s not want of memory; for I declare I can see him this moment.”
This quote was said by Mr. Enfield who saw him one night out his window. This now gave me a way better understanding of this man and why he might look like an assassin. I think that based on that quote that makes him very creepy and scary! I hope that gives you a better understanding of who the possible murderer could be. A few questions I would still have about this novel so far would be one who is the murderer? Another is why would someone want to kill a man of the Parliament? Then when is Dr. Jekyll going to get more involved in the story? I hope all of these questions get answered soon so I get to know more about the book! This book just keeps getting better and better! I'm now going to go back and start reading again until next time..............

I am reading the book "Ordinary People" by Judith Guest. I am four chapters into this book and have been reading more everyday. Conrad Jarret who is the main character has gotten into trouble and has been kicked of the swim team and out of choir and he is fighting to get himself back on track and to regain his spot on the swim team and join choir again the two most important things in his life. I think this is a good book and will be interesting to keep reading, this is a good book because it relates to teenagers so far and what drives us to do good and school and to stay out of trouble which is our extra curricular activities. I don't really know what made the other want to right this book maybe she had a friend or a brother who went through this and she is sharing it. What I think the big idea of the book is for it to be like a teenage life with girls, sports, friends, and trouble and the author wants teenagers to relate to it. The best character is Conrad because he has that drive and determination to get done what needs to be done without any shortcuts. " This is a team effort, Jarrett. I've got room for guys who are willing to work at it. Thing is, I can't figure out any more if that's you or not. " After this quote Conrad tells him that he will work and that he wants to work and that he will work harder than anyone else. The only question I have about this book is why she wrote.

I am reading the book Ethan Frome. It is written by Edith Wharton. I am currently on chapter two. So far the author has introduced the reader to the main characters and the setting. The narrator of the book described the setting as the small town of Starkfield in New England. The winters are long and cold. In the beginning of the book the narrator is talking about a puzzling man named Ethan Frome. It seems as though no one in the small town understands him. He is a quite man that keeps to himself. One cold wintery day the narrator needed someone to bring him to and from his place of work, and this was the perfect job for Ethan. While on the long trips to and from his place of work, the narrator learns some about Ethan. I am learning piece by piece who Ethan is, and some about his past. I am learning about his relationship with his wife, as well as, his relationship with her cousin.
I think the book is okay so far. It is a little confusing and sometimes hard to follow. I think that the author wrote this book to teach the reader not to judge a person before you truly now them. There is a lot of mystery in the book which I would think made it fun to write, as well. I think this is also the theme. It's the mystery of the unknown, as well as, not judging someone before you truly know them.
I think the best character in the book is Ethan. " I had the story, bit by bit, from various people, and generally happens in such cases, each time it was a different story." I think this quote goes along with the theme of the book. It is saying that people make assumptions and judge people when they don't truly know them. Thus far I don't have any questions.

Im reading the fourth book in the Eragon series which is called Inheritance and it is written by Christopher Paolini. So far the book is pretty good and has a lot of action in it. It also has a lot of chapters in it. I've read up to 400 some thing pages and have about 300 more. I think i should be done with the book by the end of this month at the rate i'm going through the book.
The book is an one of those syfy-fantasy books, the other books in the series are: Eragon, ,Brisinger. so far a favorite quote of mine in the book is when the child named Elva says "I am not in your debt, go find another child to win your wars." which I find kind of ironic cause the quote sounds familiar to me. also some thing that confuses me a little in the book is when Eragons half brother Murtagh says to Nasuada that he wants to be able to be with his brother and get along like they should when most of the book he's been trying to kill Eragon.
So far the book is pretty good, because it starts off with this battle where Eragons cousin Roran is almost flatened by an entire castle wall that fell, but only lived cause he was under the giant frame for the gate. So Eragon helped him fight off a guard by killing him with his sword, that he calls brisingr. Then later on Roran captures one city in 3 days I think and returns to the main camp. when he returns Eragon, Roran, and the rest of the Varden army capture another city near the Vardens camp. Then Eragon flies to this place so he can find some thing that can help win the war and that is where I stopped reading for now.

I am reading Around the World in Eighty Days. The book was wrote by Jules Verne in 1873. I am at page 59.
In the book so far the main character has been introduced as Phileas Fogg. He made a 20,000 pound bet on if he could make it around the world in eighty days or not. He has been through Paris and a little of Africa. At this point in the book he is in India. His train had to stop due to railway problems. So instead of waiting for the railroad to be fixed Mr. Fogg goes out and buys and elephant to take him to his next stop faster. Then Mr. Fogg and his assistant are riding the elephant to the next station. Then there is a detective following them because he believes that Phileas is the thief who stole a lot of money from a bank in London.
I think the book is pretty boring at least do far. I think the author wrote this book to show how the world has evolved over time. The book shows how hard it could be to travel around the world and what difficulties that could happen. I think it also had to do with how science was starting to be a huge thing when this book was wrote. So saying that traveling the world in eighty days was unheard of back then. The author's idea in the theme was to show what the world looked like and how different people on different parts of the world act.

The best character in book is Phileas Fogg. He seems to be a smart man who looks far into the future and everyone one of his moves are planned. That is why he is my favorite character in the story. "Unless," objected the consul, "he is exceptionally shrewd. An English criminal, you know is always better concealed in London than anywhere else" on page 31.This quote was when the people that Phileas Fogg made a bet found out that Fogg may be the thief who robbed the bank. I think this will cause a lot more problems for Phileas later in the story.

Jack's Preliminary Post
Hello Spartans, I have decided to read a book called Julius Caesar for my classic book. The was wrote by William Shakespeare. I have read the Intro. to the book and it talks about Julius down fall as leader. So my question for this book is what happen to lead him to his down fall?
The Miracle Worker: Taylor Nearad
I am reading The Miracle Worker by William Gibson. Right now I am on page 18. I'm not that far, but far enough to blog. So far my book is about Helen Keller. When she was born she was checked out by the doctor, he said she was healthy and nothing was wrong, But her mom was talking to Helen. Helen had no reaction to her mothers voice, she put her had and moved her hand in front of her face. No reaction. Kate (Helen's mom) hurried and called the doctor back in and they figured out Helen was blind and deaf. Then a few years past and Helen is I think about 5 years old. She can't do anything with the other children if she does she just touches their face and has temper tantrums. Kate and Keller are trying to figure out how to cure Helen, but they don't know.
I kind of like this book, but I'm not a big fan of the acts and the plays. Like how it's set up How is always says whose talking, I like it better when the author says like she said or he said at the beginning or end. I guess it's okay to know whose talking and what's going on though better than not knowing at all.
I think the author wrote it because he wanted people to know what raising Helen was about and how hard it was. Also maybe he wrote it this way so other people could act it out and see the set up. Also the explain in full detail what happened. I think this was his motivation because he wants other people to act it out or to see how it happened and give credit to the person that helped Helen.
I'm not sure about the theme yet. Or a cool quotation.
So far my favorite character is Kate Keller. Because she is so gentle and nice to Helen and want to help her in every way possible. She is understanding and caring to her husband and the other children.
So far there are no questions on the book I am reading.

Preston Miller Post #1
I am reading Montana 1948 by Larry Watson. Right now I am only on page 25 so I am not that far into the book. In this book David Hayden, a young Montanan boy is next in line for the role of town sherif. Although he is still only in elementary school. The main problem of the story occurs when Marie, the families native american maid becomes ill. The family calls Dr. Frank, David's uncle, to come and check up on her. But, Mari doesn't want medical treatment, and refuses to have it. Wes, the local sheriff finds out why; but I'm not going to tell you because that will ruin the beginning of the story. One question I have so far in the story is who got Mari sick, or how did she get sick? I'm not quite sure what the theme of the book is yet but I think that it might be caring for others is a good way to show how much you care.
Uncle Frank was also a war hero and when he got back they threw a huge party for him. His dad got up on a picnic table and gave a speech. When his dad went up there he said "Now I would like to have my son come up here." I thought that was interesting because he has more then one son, and didn't specify which son he was talking about, everybody just knew which one.

Preliminary Posts
If you've just picked out a book and/or begun to read, please feel free to publish a preliminary post. This is just a quick post that tells me what book you're reading and who wrote it. You may also want to post a prediction or ask any questions that come up as you're looking the book over or reading the first few pages.
This does not count as Blog Post #1. It might be easier if you make the title of your post "Prelim. Post on >insert title here<."
Please go back to the first posts and re-read the criteria for this project (what you need to do in each post). If you are unsure about anything, please ask.
Happy Reading!
