I am reading the book Ethan Frome. It is written by Edith Wharton. I am currently on chapter two. So far the author has introduced the reader to the main characters and the setting. The narrator of the book described the setting as the small town of Starkfield in New England. The winters are long and cold. In the beginning of the book the narrator is talking about a puzzling man named Ethan Frome. It seems as though no one in the small town understands him. He is a quite man that keeps to himself. One cold wintery day the narrator needed someone to bring him to and from his place of work, and this was the perfect job for Ethan. While on the long trips to and from his place of work, the narrator learns some about Ethan. I am learning piece by piece who Ethan is, and some about his past. I am learning about his relationship with his wife, as well as, his relationship with her cousin.
I think the book is okay so far. It is a little confusing and sometimes hard to follow. I think that the author wrote this book to teach the reader not to judge a person before you truly now them. There is a lot of mystery in the book which I would think made it fun to write, as well. I think this is also the theme. It's the mystery of the unknown, as well as, not judging someone before you truly know them.
I think the best character in the book is Ethan. " I had the story, bit by bit, from various people, and generally happens in such cases, each time it was a different story." I think this quote goes along with the theme of the book. It is saying that people make assumptions and judge people when they don't truly know them. Thus far I don't have any questions.

Im reading the fourth book in the Eragon series which is called Inheritance and it is written by Christopher Paolini. So far the book is pretty good and has a lot of action in it. It also has a lot of chapters in it. I've read up to 400 some thing pages and have about 300 more. I think i should be done with the book by the end of this month at the rate i'm going through the book.
The book is an one of those syfy-fantasy books, the other books in the series are: Eragon, ,Brisinger. so far a favorite quote of mine in the book is when the child named Elva says "I am not in your debt, go find another child to win your wars." which I find kind of ironic cause the quote sounds familiar to me. also some thing that confuses me a little in the book is when Eragons half brother Murtagh says to Nasuada that he wants to be able to be with his brother and get along like they should when most of the book he's been trying to kill Eragon.
So far the book is pretty good, because it starts off with this battle where Eragons cousin Roran is almost flatened by an entire castle wall that fell, but only lived cause he was under the giant frame for the gate. So Eragon helped him fight off a guard by killing him with his sword, that he calls brisingr. Then later on Roran captures one city in 3 days I think and returns to the main camp. when he returns Eragon, Roran, and the rest of the Varden army capture another city near the Vardens camp. Then Eragon flies to this place so he can find some thing that can help win the war and that is where I stopped reading for now.

I am reading Around the World in Eighty Days. The book was wrote by Jules Verne in 1873. I am at page 59.
In the book so far the main character has been introduced as Phileas Fogg. He made a 20,000 pound bet on if he could make it around the world in eighty days or not. He has been through Paris and a little of Africa. At this point in the book he is in India. His train had to stop due to railway problems. So instead of waiting for the railroad to be fixed Mr. Fogg goes out and buys and elephant to take him to his next stop faster. Then Mr. Fogg and his assistant are riding the elephant to the next station. Then there is a detective following them because he believes that Phileas is the thief who stole a lot of money from a bank in London.
I think the book is pretty boring at least do far. I think the author wrote this book to show how the world has evolved over time. The book shows how hard it could be to travel around the world and what difficulties that could happen. I think it also had to do with how science was starting to be a huge thing when this book was wrote. So saying that traveling the world in eighty days was unheard of back then. The author's idea in the theme was to show what the world looked like and how different people on different parts of the world act.

The best character in book is Phileas Fogg. He seems to be a smart man who looks far into the future and everyone one of his moves are planned. That is why he is my favorite character in the story. "Unless," objected the consul, "he is exceptionally shrewd. An English criminal, you know is always better concealed in London than anywhere else" on page 31.This quote was when the people that Phileas Fogg made a bet found out that Fogg may be the thief who robbed the bank. I think this will cause a lot more problems for Phileas later in the story.

Jack's Preliminary Post
Hello Spartans, I have decided to read a book called Julius Caesar for my classic book. The was wrote by William Shakespeare. I have read the Intro. to the book and it talks about Julius down fall as leader. So my question for this book is what happen to lead him to his down fall?
The Miracle Worker: Taylor Nearad
I am reading The Miracle Worker by William Gibson. Right now I am on page 18. I'm not that far, but far enough to blog. So far my book is about Helen Keller. When she was born she was checked out by the doctor, he said she was healthy and nothing was wrong, But her mom was talking to Helen. Helen had no reaction to her mothers voice, she put her had and moved her hand in front of her face. No reaction. Kate (Helen's mom) hurried and called the doctor back in and they figured out Helen was blind and deaf. Then a few years past and Helen is I think about 5 years old. She can't do anything with the other children if she does she just touches their face and has temper tantrums. Kate and Keller are trying to figure out how to cure Helen, but they don't know.
I kind of like this book, but I'm not a big fan of the acts and the plays. Like how it's set up How is always says whose talking, I like it better when the author says like she said or he said at the beginning or end. I guess it's okay to know whose talking and what's going on though better than not knowing at all.
I think the author wrote it because he wanted people to know what raising Helen was about and how hard it was. Also maybe he wrote it this way so other people could act it out and see the set up. Also the explain in full detail what happened. I think this was his motivation because he wants other people to act it out or to see how it happened and give credit to the person that helped Helen.
I'm not sure about the theme yet. Or a cool quotation.
So far my favorite character is Kate Keller. Because she is so gentle and nice to Helen and want to help her in every way possible. She is understanding and caring to her husband and the other children.
So far there are no questions on the book I am reading.

Preston Miller Post #1
I am reading Montana 1948 by Larry Watson. Right now I am only on page 25 so I am not that far into the book. In this book David Hayden, a young Montanan boy is next in line for the role of town sherif. Although he is still only in elementary school. The main problem of the story occurs when Marie, the families native american maid becomes ill. The family calls Dr. Frank, David's uncle, to come and check up on her. But, Mari doesn't want medical treatment, and refuses to have it. Wes, the local sheriff finds out why; but I'm not going to tell you because that will ruin the beginning of the story. One question I have so far in the story is who got Mari sick, or how did she get sick? I'm not quite sure what the theme of the book is yet but I think that it might be caring for others is a good way to show how much you care.
Uncle Frank was also a war hero and when he got back they threw a huge party for him. His dad got up on a picnic table and gave a speech. When his dad went up there he said "Now I would like to have my son come up here." I thought that was interesting because he has more then one son, and didn't specify which son he was talking about, everybody just knew which one.

Preliminary Posts
If you've just picked out a book and/or begun to read, please feel free to publish a preliminary post. This is just a quick post that tells me what book you're reading and who wrote it. You may also want to post a prediction or ask any questions that come up as you're looking the book over or reading the first few pages.
This does not count as Blog Post #1. It might be easier if you make the title of your post "Prelim. Post on >insert title here<."
Please go back to the first posts and re-read the criteria for this project (what you need to do in each post). If you are unsure about anything, please ask.
Happy Reading!
